Residential and Business Advocates
Consumer and business advocates represent the largest source of Wired Group revenues. Past and current clients include the Association of Businesses Advocating for Tariff Equity (Michigan); Attorneys General in Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Oklahoma, and Washington; state-funded, independent utility consumer advocates in Connecticut (Office of Consumer Counsel), Hawaii (Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs), Iowa (Office of Consumer Advocate), Maryland (Office of People’s Counsel), Missouri (Office of Public Counsel), New Hampshire (Office of the Consumer Advocate), New Jersey (Division of Rate Counsel), Ohio (Office of Consumer Counsel), and Utah (Office of Consumer Services); and independent consumer advocates such as AARP (Arizona, California, and Oklahoma) and The Utility Reform Network (California), to name but a few.
Environmental Advocates
Environmental advocates are another significant source of Wired Group revenues. For these clients, the Wired Group typically evaluates and optimizes environmentally related utility spending, from transmission and distribution spending intended to accommodate utility-scale renewable generation to utility customer programs offering incentives for distributed energy resources, electric vehicles, and energy storage. Past and current clients include the Environmental Defense Fund, the Southern Environmental Law Center, and the Michigan Environmental Council.
Regulators and Staff
Objective information on utility infrastructure, operations, planning, and performance can be difficult to come by. Most regulators and Staff rely on the utilities they regulate, or consultants and suppliers reliant on utility revenues, for answers to their questions on utility infrastructure, operations, planning, and performance. Utilities and their consultants and suppliers should not be considered unbiased sources of information. As the Wired Group gets no revenues from utilities, utility consultants, or utility suppliers, regulators and Staff call upon us for perspectives and answers unbiased by utility incentives. Past and current clients include the Ohio Public Utilities Commission Staff, the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission Staff, and Staff-based consumer advocates in Georgia (Public Interest Staff) and North Dakota (Consumer Affairs Staff).
